The Toronto Blue Jays are a team that had high expectations surrounding them at the start of the 2024 season. Unfortunately, they have not lived up to those expectations after two consecutive years in the postseason.
Instead, the Blue Jays are 68-77 and sit in last place in the American League East, with their hopes of reaching this year's postseason all but lost.
However, they seem to be intent on contending again in 2025, and Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report recently linked them to a star third baseman ahead of the offseason.
"While Ernie Clement has been respectable at third base, are the Jays really going to let it ride with a guy who had a mild breakout in his age-28 season when they could potentially go get Alex Bregman?"
Bregman would be a tremendous fit in Toronto. While they have plenty of areas to address, they do already have Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette, and George Springer in their lineup. Adding Bregman would give them one of the best lineups in all of Major League Baseball.
Bregman would also be reunited with Springer, as the two were part of the Houston Astros 2017 World Series championship team.
The 30-year-old is hitting .259 with 22 home runs, 65 RBI, three stolen bases and a .762 OPS this year, which is well timed for his walk year. Signing him would signal that the Blue Jays plan to contend in 2025 and hope that 2024 was a blip on the radar screen.
It will be interesting to see if they ultimately are in the mix for the star third baseman.
