Tom Gage received the J.G. Taylor Spink Award “for meritorious contributions to baseball writing.” Gage was the Tigers beat writer for The Detroit News. Spink was publisher of The Sporting News from 1914 until his death in 1962. The Sporting News was founded in 1886 and was a magazine until 2013.
