Bartolo Colon hits home run, proves anything is possible image

Forget the Kentucky Derby. Forget playoff basketball and hockey. Forget March Madness and the Super Bowl.

The greatest sports moment of 2016 — no, the greatest moment period — happened Saturday night, when Mets pitcher Bartolo Colon hit his first career home run at Petco Park off Padres starter James Shields. The 42-year-old Colon, all 285 pounds of him, rounded the bases with an enormous grin as the Mets bench went absolutely bonkers.

SNY play-by-play man Gary Cohen summarized the moment perfectly, exclaiming, "The impossible has happened!"

And what a week it's been for Colon. In his last start, Colon passed Pedro Martinez for second-most wins by any pitcher born in the Dominican Republic.

After Colon's homer Saturday, Twitter exploded. As expected.

Oh, and the home run gave the Mets a 4-0 lead. Bartolo the Pitcher now has to protect the lead Bartolo the Batter gave him.
