MLB free agency: Braves give Bartolo Colon eight-figure contract image

The Braves are bringing in the old stars as the club prepares to open its new SunTrust Park next season.

A day after signing Cy Young Award winner and 42-year-old knuckleballer R.A. Dickey, the Braves have also agreed to terms with iconic veteran pitcher Bartolo Colon on Friday, according to MLB.com. The deal is for one year and $12.5 million, pending a physical, per Fox Sports

Despite his age, Colon was one of the better pitchers in the National League this past season. His 15 wins with the Mets were 10th-most in the NL and his 3.43 ERA ranked 13th. His performance garnered a nearly $5 million pay raise after making $7.25 million in 2016.

Colon will turn 44 next May but he has thrown 190 or more innings in four straight seasons and is more than serviceable paired with Dickey and ace Julio Teheran.
