Alex Rodriguez has two seasons to take a swing at the all-time home run record set by Barry Bonds with 762. Rodriguez has one round-tripper this season, the 688th of his career, leaving him 75 short of breaking the record.
Bonds, now the hitting coach for the Marlins, is certain his record is safe.
“No, not in two years,” Bonds told the New York Daily News when asked if Rodriguez will set a new mark.

Rodriguez, 40, hit 33 home runs last season, his most since 2008. A yearlong suspension in 2014 certainly hurt his chances of catching Bonds. He announced prior to the season he plans to finish out the final two years of his deal with the Yankees before stepping away at 42 years old.
If A-Rod somehow manages to turn the clock back to the mid-2000s and threaten the record, he would have a swan song even more impressive than Bonds’ final two seasons, in which he hit a combined 54 home runs.
