Barack Obama approves David Ortiz dropping the 'F' bomb, calls it 'proud' moment image

When David Ortiz took the microphone at Fenway Park in April 2013 to address the Fenway Park faithful about the recent Boston Marathon bombings, the Red Sox slugger did not hold back, proudly proclaiming, "This is our f------ city."

While sitting in with the ESPN broadcast crew during Tuesday's Tampa Bay Rays-Cuban National Team exhibition at Estadio Lationoamericano in Havana, Cuba, President Barack Obama said the moment, combined with how people in Boston responded after the attack, was one his proudest moments in eight years as president.

"One of my proudest moments as president was watching Boston respond after the marathon (attack) and when Ortiz went out and said, probably the only time that America didn’t have a problem with cursing on live TV, when he talked about how strong Boston was and was not going to be intimidated," Obama said. "And that is the kind of resilience and the kind of strength that we have to continually show in the face of these terrorists."

ESPN commentator Karl Ravech also asked Obama if there was any consideration given to not playing the Rays-Cuban National Team game in light of the recent terrorist attacks in Brussels.

"It’s always a challenge when you’ve got a terrorist attack anywhere in the world, particularly in this age of 24-7 news coverage, you want to be respectful and understand the gravity of the situation," Obama said. "But the whole premise of terrorism is to try to disrupt people’s ordinary lives and one of my most powerful memories."
