A pitcher drafted in 2014 by the A's was in very serious condition Friday after being shot in the head in a drive-by shooting overnight in Yonkers, N.Y., according to police (via The Journal News ).

Mike Nolan, a 6-7 left-handed pitcher taken in the 18th round of the 2014 MLB Draft, was also shot in the torso and is fighting for his life, his father, Jimmy Nolan, said, according to NBC New York .

The shooting happened just after 12:30 a.m. ET outside a Burger King restaurant, police said.

Nolan, 23, was standing with friends outside his car when he was shot by a suspect who drove up on a service road and fired five or six times before driving off.

Nolan signed with the A’s in 2014 but soon after was put on the restricted list of the A's Arizona League affiliate, according to his MILB profile. Nolan also played  at Oklahoma City University.
