Disgruntled Astros fan starts GoFundMe to buy out Carlos Gomez image

Carlos Gomez has struggled mightily for the Astros this season, and after Houston's 2-1 loss Monday to the Yankees, one fan has had enough.

A GoFundMe page, started by Astros fan Andrew Collins, aims to raise $9 million to buy out Gomez's contract, the Houston Chronicle reported.

The page appeared late Monday night after Gomez grounded into an game-ending double play.

"I just really don't like Carlos Gomez, man," Collins told the Chronicle. "As far as being a fan goes, I think he showboats way too much and underperforms. I think he has all the tools to be a gifted athlete. He just can't get his (stuff) together. I don't think he fits on the team, either."

"He's got a cannon (for an arm) he can't control. He's really quick, but takes terrible routes. The Astros lost that game (Monday) because he took a terrible route. He gets burned by balls that go over his head every three games."

As of Tuesday afternoon, the page was $8,999,975 short of its goal.

The Astros are still playing well, sitting at second in the American League West with a 54-45 record, 3 1/2 games back of the Rangers, going into Tuesday's games.

However, Gomez is having his worst offensive season to date with a .209 batting average, just five home runs and 28 RBIs.
