With the trade deadline two days away, the Houston Astros are intensifying their search for a starting pitcher.
Houston entered Sunday with a one game lead over the Seattle Mariners in the American League West. The Astros feel that adding another starter will help them gain some separation from Seattle and enter the playoffs with a robust enough rotation to give them a chance at a third World Series victory in the last eight seasons.
Houston's general manager Dana Brown has his hands in many possible deals for a starter. The Astros have been linked to Blake Snell of the San Francisco Giants and Jameson Taillon of the Chicago Cubs, among others.
Another starter that Houston is closely monitoring is Erick Fedde of the Chicago White Sox. On Friday, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reported that the Astros could land Fedde.
"Erick Fedde is another starter the Astros are actively considering; he is a stronger candidate for the White Sox to move if Garrett Crochet is not dealt," Morosi said.
Fedde's 7-4 record and impressive 3.11 ERA for the lowly White Sox make him a desirable asset for any contender shopping for starting pitching.
Will Brown be able to maneuver his way past other suitors for Fedde and execute a trade in the next 48 hours?
