Royals manager Ned Yost just wants to use his Apple Watch in the dugout, but Major League Baseball won't allow it.

Yost was spotted sporting the watch earlier this week, which raised questions.

On Tuesday, we kind of got an answer.

The Kansas City Star's Andy McCullough asked Yost about the watch and got an interesting response. Apparently MLB called Yost and told him he's not allowed to wear the watch during games. There's a rule in place that doesn't allow cell phones in the dugout. MLB doesn't realize the watch isn't a phone.

"When you're away from your phone, all it is is a watch," Yost said. "It's just a clock."

He's right. When the watch isn't paired with the phone, its uses are really limited. There are some apps you can use with it, but it's not like using a cell phone in the dugout.

Yost added he only really uses the watch to catalog his exercise goals and check the weather.

The best part about all of this: MLB gave Yost the watch for being the manager of the American League All-Star team last month.

A search on Twitter shows Yost has been spotted wearing the watch in various games since the All-Star break. He's only recently been chastised by MLB.
