Angels manager Mike Scioscia will be back in 2016 for his 17th season at the helm, he said Monday (via the Orange County Register).

Scioscia, 56, will not exercise the opt-out clause in his contract that pays him $6 million per season through 2018.

"I'm coming back," Scioscia said at the news conference Monday to introduce new Angels GM Billy Eppler. Scioscia's relationship with Eppler's predecessor, Jerry Dipoto, led in part to his departure midway through the 2015 season.

Scioscia had declined to talk about his future Sunday after the Angels were eliminated from wild-card contention with a 9-2 loss to the Rangers in game No. 162.

Scioscia is 1,416-1,176 (.546) over 16 seasons and was AL Manager of the Year in 2002 and 2009. According to the Register, since Scioscia took the job in Anaheim, 20 MLB teams have gone through at least five managers.
