The Angels are expected to announce the hiring of Yankees executive Billy Eppler to serve as their next general manager, according to multiple reports.

As first reported by the Los Angeles Times, the Angels will hold a Monday morning news conference to introduce Eppler, concluding their months-long search to replace former general manager Jerry Dipoto.

Eppler has served as the top assistant to Yankees general manager Brian Cashman since 2011. He has been with the Yankees since 2004, when he joined the front office as a scout.

The Angels' season ended Sunday with a 9-2 loss to the Rangers. A win and an Astros loss would have forced a 163rd play-in game between the two clubs. Instead, they finished third in the AL West at 85-77, missing the playoffs for the fifth time in six seasons.

Dipoto, who spent four seasons as the Angels' general manager, resigned from his post in June after the club underachieved in the first half of the season. Dipoto was hired by the Mariners earlier this month.

In addition, manager Mike Scioscia won't yet comment on whether he will be back with the Angels next season. The longest tenured manager in the majors has an opt-out clause in his contract, though the Orange County Register reports the new GM is unlikely to have the authority to make a decision on Scioscia either way. That would be left up to Scioscia or owner Arte Moreno.

Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reported late Sunday that Scioscia would not be opting out.
