Angel Pagan spits gum near Derek Norris, commotion ensues image

We had a good old-fashioned batter-catcher exchange in San Diego last night, but with a new wrinkle. It centered around a piece of gum.

Giants outfielder Angel Pagan tossed his gum away while at bat in the ninth inning. It hit catcher Derek Norris's glove. Norris was not happy about it. He told Pagan how he felt, and told reporters why he felt that way after the game.

Craig Kimbrel then threw a fastball high and tight to Pagan, but the world-class agitator tripled and showed some emotion on third base, ultimately winning the battle. He didn't score, but the Giants went on to win, 1-0, in 12 innings. CSN has more details about the exchange.

This was game one of 18 between these two teams, who both figure to contend in the National League West this season. Stay tuned for plenty more of this.
