Former Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo was traded to the AL East rival New York Yankees this offseason after four seasons in Boston.
During Verdugo's time with the Red Sox, he was embraced by the fans and seemingly by his teammates, even though the coaches held him accountable for his actions throughout his tenure.
Now, it seems that the outfielder is throwing a bit of shade at his former team in acknowledging his current situation.
“Honestly, this is probably my favorite clubhouse I’ve ever been in,” Verdugo told MLB.com. “The amount of veterans, the amount of guys that all care for each other and want the best, it’s really encouraging. The biggest thing is in postgame recovery and workouts, the veterans stick together. You gravitate towards that.
“It’s a very close-knit, tight-knit group. It’s really special to see, especially for me coming over here. You never know how certain guys with 13 years of big league service, how they’re going to be, and these guys are super pro about it and know how to involve the entire team.”
While playing for the Red Sox over the last couple of seasons may not have been the most positive thing for Verdugo (or anyone, really), the vibes were very high in 2018 and 2021. So, these comments seem to come with a touch of recency bias.
