Before Alex Rodriguez even took the field for his final game with the Yankees on Friday night, the Twittersphere was filling up with tributes … as well as nasty taunts that seemed to cover every low point of his career.
Surprisingly, A-Rod didn't start trending until after the game, when #ThankYouAROD made an appearance among Twitter's top topics.

Also conspicuously absent were any Thanks A-Rod Tweets from the Mariners or Rangers, his first two MLB teams.
But fans, reporters and fellow players shared their love and appreciation for Rodriguez.
Without @AROD, my Ranger career would've lasted 2 years...tops. Prep, work, love of the game. Thanks, Al. #rrrruta pic.twitter.com/ePwFAyeNXW

It's easy to dislike him, but many may come to regret underappreciating one of baseball's best. #ThankYouAROD https://t.co/0UCiSdI2Y7

Now, for some of the haters who couldn't help trolling the 14-time All-Star:
GOODBYE CHEATER @AROD

My thoughts on #afraud @AROD is a scam artist who defrauded millions from greedy owners. Zero respect good riddance. #cheater

A bit of karma rain for @AROD. That's just God letting you know you are a cheater and shouldn't be celebrated.
