Marlins reportedly discussed signing Alex Rodriguez, but move seems unlikely image

At least one team has reportedly shown interest in keeping Alex Rodriguez in the majors.

According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the Marlins have had internal discussions to sign the soon-to-be released slugger. At best, the Marlins likely wouldn't bring him in until rosters expand Sept. 1, but the deal seems like a long shot.

Rodriguez is set to be released by the Yankees after Friday's game. Rodriguez is beloved in Miami, where he has a home, after playing high school baseball in Florida and committing to play at Miami before being drafted by the Mariners.

Rodriguez, 41, is just four home runs shy of 700 for his career.

The Marlins are tied with the Cardinals for the second wild-card spot at 60-54. They’re 7 1/2 games behind the Nationals for first place in the NL East.
