Alex Rodriguez reached 3,000 hits. Max Scherzer threw a no-hitter. Jordan Spieth won the U.S. Open.

Not a bad weekend for a trio all born on the same day.

Oddly enough, A-Rod, Scherzer and Spieth were all born on July 27. Rodriguez, the oldest of the three born July 27, 1975, earned his 3,000th career hit Friday with a solo home run off Justin Verlander. The 39-year-old Yankees slugger became the 29th member of the 3,000 hit club.

Scherzer dominated the Pirates on Saturday by nearly throwing a perfect game. The 30-year-old righty, born July 27, 1984, struck out ten batters and allowed one baserunner after 8 2/3 innings of flawless pitching. Scherzer hit Jose Tabata on the elbow before getting Josh Harrison to fly out to complete the no-hitter.

There was some debate over whether Tabata pulled a bush-league move by leaning into the pitch. Scherzer didn't seem to hold a grudge against Tabata, as he enjoyed a chocolate syrup shower after the game.

Spieth finished off the weekend with a shocking U.S. Open victory. He became the sixth golfer ever to win The Masters and U.S. Open in the same year.

Born July 27, 1993, Spieth has accomplished more than most before his 22nd birthday next month. Oh, and more than $15 million in career earnings is pretty good, too.

If you're looking for more athletes born on July 27, you can throw in Lakers forward Jordan Hill as well as WWE stars Triple H and Dolph Ziggler. Not sure what events they had planned for their weekends.
