Gordon, the second overall pick in the 2006 draft, has become an integral part of Kansas City's championship roster. The 31-year-old has been an All-Star over the last three seasons, and was a prized free agent this season.
There was some doubt as to whether he'd come back to the Royals. December reports said the team had "no chance" to get him back.
He hit .271/.377/.432 for the season with 13 HR 48 RBI in 104 games last season.
