The New York Yankees reportedly are interested in a potential reunion with Toronto Blue Jays right-handed pitcher Chad Green ahead of the MLB trade deadline.

With some help needed in the bullpen, the Yankees are among the teams that are expected to be aggressive at the deadline in that area.

Green, who spent seven seasons with the Yankees (2016-2022), has been in Toronto for the last two campaigns.

Jon Morosi of MLB Network first reported the news of the Yankees' interest in a potential trade for Green.

After registering a 3.14 ERA and 11.3 K/9 during his time with the Yankees, Green went to Toronto in free agency but struggled mightily in 2023 as he worked back from Tommy John surgery.

Green may still be returning to form and while his 1.88 ERA and 0.98 WHIP in 28.2 innings is impressive, his underlying metrics indicate regression may be coming.

Green has an expected ERA of 4.35 while his 8.2% walk rate and 21.2% strikeout rate are both currently career-worst marks. His 92.8 mph exit velocity is also a career-high this season.

The Yankees need bullpen help toward the back end of the unit, and maybe Green can capture some of his magic from earlier in his career.

Either way, this will be something to watch over the next week with the deadline quickly approaching.
