The New York Yankees appointed top prospect Jasson Dominguez as the 27th man for Sunday night's game against the Detroit Tigers, the team announced.

This is a somewhat surprising move considering the 27th man promotion is typically reserved for doubleheaders.

But it appears Major League Baseball is allowing it to happen for the Little League Classic game taking place Tuesday night in Williamsport, PA.

Coming back from a torn UCL late in the 2023 season shortly after being called up for his MLB debut in September, Dominguez has appeared in 40 games at the minor league level in 2024.

He was also absent for roughly a month due to an oblique injury in June. In 151 at-bats mostly at the Triple-A level, Dominguez is slashing .298/.365/.477 with seven home runs and 24 RBI.

Considering the struggles of veteran left fielder Alex Verdugo, many have wondered why Dominguez hasn't been called up yet to give the Yankees more upside at the plate.

Dominguez, nicknamed "The Martian," enjoyed incredible success in a very limited sample size during the 2023 season when he was called up in September.

Though it was only across the small sample size of 31 at-bats, Dominguez hit four home runs and logged a .980 OPS.

Dominguez is expected to be called up at some point later this season given the fact that teams are now past the point of a prospect losing rookie eligibility for the remainder of the campaign in most cases.

It will be interesting to see if Dominguez will be in the starting lineup considering he's active for only this game.
