Luis Gil's brutal outing ends Yankees' historic franchise streak image

Sometimes, pitchers simply don't have it. New York Yankees starter Luis Gil did not have it on Thursday against the Baltimore Orioles.

Gil, who was missing badly inside the zone, threw 47 pitches in 1.1 innings. He allowed eight hits, seven runs, two walks and one home run. He struck out just one batter and allowed a hit-by-pitch to score a run with the bases loaded.

In what has been a sensational rookie season for Gil, this was easily his worst outing. It also ended a historic streak within the franchise.

It all started with a badly misplayed ball in right field by Juan Soto on the first pitch of the game. It resulted in a leadoff double for Orioles star Gunnar Henderson. Gil limited the damage to one run but then gave up six runs in the second inning, recording just one out before being pulled.

Gil has been fantastic throughout the season. Outings like this are going to happen from time to time, especially against strong offenses like the Orioles.
