The dominant effort from the visiting Braves began early and often with a three-run first inning highlighted by two home runs against Rodon.

Meanwhile, the Yankees offense put together one of its worst outings of the season, securing just three hits and one run.

Yankees vs Braves takeaways, highlights

Rodon's brutal outing

Easily the worst outing of the season for Rodon, the Braves attacked his fastball early. Ozzie Albies got it started with a booming two-run home run in the first inning. Austin Riley followed that up with a solo shot of his own.

The Braves tacked on single-run innings in the second and third before another three runs scored in the fourth, highlighted by Matt Olson's 374-foot home run to right field. His final line in the loss was 3.2 innings, 11 hits, eight runs (seven earned), two walks, three strike outs and three home runs on 93 pitches.

The Yankee Stadium crowd showered him with boos as he left the field.

Chris Sale dominated

The Yankees offense struggled big time against the former Red Sox lefty. Sale has put together a vintage season thus far, and it continued Friday night. He went 5.0 innings allowing one hit, one run and three walks while striking out eight.

The Yankees offense mustered just one hard hit against Sale—a triple off the bat of Jahmai Jones in the second inning. Sale generated 14 swings and misses relying heavily on his slider and fastball combination.

Yeondrys Gomez provides silver lining

If there is any positive takeaway from this game for the Yankees, it's that Gomez looked the part of a swing-and-miss reliever. Gomez, who was recalled from Triple-A on Friday, generated 12 swings and misses in 4.2 innings of relief.

The 24-year-old helped save a taxed bullpen with a long outing, allowing three hits, no runs and no walks while striking out five on 78 pitches. Gomez relied on a three-pitch mix of a four-seam fastball, sweeper and slider while also mixing in the occasional curveball and changeup.
