The Pittsburgh Pirates claimed relief pitcher Dennis Santana, who was designated for assignment by the New York Yankees on Sunday.

Despite making the active roster coming out of spring training, Santana struggled in recent outings. This led to them cutting the 28-year-old and recalling Ron Marinaccio from Triple-A ahead of the series against the Kansas City Royals.

The Yankees still have not replaced Santana's spot on the 40-man roster as of this writing.

Santana had been struggling in recent outings and had two long outings this week alone. In 27.1 innings pitched across 23 appearances this season, Santana has a 6.26 ERA with 19 strikeouts and 10 walks.

Over his final seven games with the Yankees, Santana had a 10.38 ERA in 8.2 innings pitched. During that stretch, he allowed 13 hits and 10 earned runs.
