New York Yankees' Anthony Rizzo exits game with injury after collision image

New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo exited Sunday night's game due to an apparent hand or wrist injury following a collision while running out a ground ball.

After slowly tapping a ground ball to first base with runners on first and second and no outs, Rizzo collided with Boston Red Sox pitcher Brennan Bernadino.

Rizzo landed awkwardly on his hand/wrist and was immediately in pain. The Yankees first baseman came out of the game immediately.

It's unclear how severe the injury is, but it was painful enough that he had to exit the game right away. Rizzo was replaced on the basepaths by Oswaldo Cabrera.

While the injury hopefully isn't serious, it will be interesting to see what the Yankees do if Rizzo misses time.

They reportedly have interest in upgrading the first base position if Rizzo can't improve upon his 80 OPS+ ahead of the trade deadline.

The Yankees could simply slide DJ LeMahieu over the first base every day, but he's struggled immensely since returning from the injured list.

They could also look to call up Ben Rice from Triple-A considering his strong start to the season with a .925 OPS and 15 home runs in 60 games.

We'll provide updates on Rizzo as soon as they come in.
