The New York Yankees are keeping their ears close to the ground ahead of the MLB trade deadline, but one of their potential targets hit the injured list Friday.

While it isn't clear whether the Yankees have concrete interest in a potential trade, plenty of analysts have linked them to potentially adding Los Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo at the deadline.

However, things may become a bit more complicated if the Yankees were planning on making a trade for the versatile infielder.

Rengifo was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday due to wrist inflammation.

The 26-year-old exited Wednesday's game during the ninth inning when he fouled a ball off. He was replaced during that at-bat and hasn't been in the lineup since.

The initial x-rays on Rengifo's wrist were negative so there are encouraging updates that it won't be a long-term injury.

Rengifo's .315 average is the fourth-best in the American League and the fifth-best in MLB. He hit .318 with a .960 OPS during the second half of the 2023 season and has continued to be productive at the plate halfway through the 2024 season.

Rengifo offers a lot of versatility but plenty of question marks when it comes to his fielding.

It will be interesting to see how this impacts his trade market and whether the Yankees will be comfortable with potentially adding Rengifo despite the injury.
