Gerrit Cole injury update: Latest news on New York Yankees ace image

New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole exited Monday night's game against the Texas Rangers with an apparent calf injury.

In what was one of his best starts of the season, Cole had already tossed six innings of one-run ball with nine strikeouts and one walk.

However, the reigning Cy Young award winner exited the game during warm-ups before the bottom of the seventh inning.

Fortunately, it doesn't appear to be anything serious as Cole was taken out of the game with a 7-1 lead due to cramps.

"I tried a couple of things to get it to stop, and it didn’t stop,” said Cole after the game. “So it didn’t seem like it was going to go away.”

The Yankees will monitor Cole throughout Tuesday to make sure there aren't any underlying issues, but the veteran ace told reporters he wasn't "super concerned" with the injury.

With just a half-game lead over the Baltimore Orioles in the division, the Yankees can't afford for Cole to miss any time.

Even so, they will need to make sure their ace is good to go for September leading into the playoffs so this is something to keep an eye on.
