No big market team is under more pressure to win a World Series in 2024 than the Los Angeles Dodgers.
At least, that’s what former Red Sox legend and Hall of Fame pitcher Pedro Martínez believes.
Martínez recently appeared on Bleacher Report’s “B/R Walk-Off” program, where Martínez was asked which team between the Dodgers and the New York Yankees has more pressure to bring home a championship this season.
Martínez answered firmly that the Dodgers are the team dealing with the most pressure.
“There’s a lot of money in jeopardy in L.A.,” Martínez said. “I think L.A. has probably a little bit more pressure, especially because of what they have done in the last few seasons. I think the Dodgers are under a lot of pressure to actually perform, especially from those two guys (Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts). When you give one guy $700 (million) and the other guy 300 and something, you got to make it (all the way).”
“(It’s time) for Ohtani to prove that he’s that unicorn. … They paid huge amounts of money to (certain guys) to actually put them in position to win … (These guys) have something to prove.”
Given Martínez’s analysis about the Dodgers, it’s no surprise that manager Dave Roberts stands to lose his job if Los Angeles fails to compete for a World Series this fall.
