The New York Yankees got good news on outfielder Juan Soto, who left their game Thursday with a forearm injury. Yankees manager Aaron Boone on Friday told reporters the Soto is day-to-day and that the team doesn't expect Soto to go on the IL. Boone also said Soto may be available during their weekend series vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers.
For LA they'd surely be fine missing Soto in this series. He's batting .318 this season with a 1.027 OPS and 17 home runs.
There's a familiarity between the Dodgers and Soto after his season-and-a-half stint with the Padres in the National League West. In his career Soto is hitting .229 against LA with seven home runs in 44 games. He also had a big series against them in the 2019 National League Division Series, but he really struggled against them when the Dodgers and Padres squared off in the 2022 NLDS.
While the Dodgers would take the break of not needing to try and get Soto out, the highly-anticipated Dodgers-Yankees showdown will be better if he plays in it. And it sounds like there's a real possibility of that happening Saturday and/or Sunday.
