It's not easy to make the Los Angeles Dodgers an underdog, even after they posted a sweep of the White Sox to push themselves to a season-high 20 games over .500. Alas, facing San Francisco Giants ace Logan Webb at Oracle Park has put LA in an unfamiliar position.
The Dodgers and Giants on Friday open up a three-game set in the Bay Area and rookie Landon Knack will be on the bump for LA against Webb, who was a Cy Young contender last season and is putting together another All-Star caliber campaign this year.
Here's what the odds look like at BetMGM:
Run line
Dodgers -1.5: +165
Giants +1.5: -200
Moneyline
Dodgers: -105
Giants: -115
Total
Over 7.5 runs: -105
Under 7.5 runs: -115
Prediction
This is a tough spot for the Dodgers after a day off. Webb is having another excellent year and after getting touched up by LA for five runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings on April 2, he shut them out and allowed only three hits across 6.0 innings in May.
That version of Webb we saw in May is more typical of what he did in two starts against LA last season, so it's hard to have a ton of optimism that the Dodgers are going to rack up a bunch of runs.
The bigger question for LA is if Knack can just keep the game within reach for the Dodgers for if/when they get into the Giants bullpen, which hasn't been stellar. We're expecting a pitcher's duel in a game that looks like a toss-up, and in a toss-up we'll lean toward the better offense.
Dodgers 3, Giants 2
