Teoscar Hernández signed a one-year, $23.5 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers last offseason. He will be a free agent again this winter and is predicted to sign a multi-year deal.
Hernández is predicted by Spotrac to sign a three-year, $71 million deal when he hits the open market. Hernández's current contract with the Dodgers included $8.5 million in deferred money.
In his first year with the Dodgers, Hernández was named an All-Star for the second time in his career. He hit a career-high 33 home runs. He also set a career-high in walks. Hernández was also the winner of the Home Run Derby this season.
He will have plenty of suitors after a career year, but the Dodgers may make a strong push to keep him around. The outfield has been shuffled a few times this year, but Hernández has remained a constant in the lineup. He started 154 games in the outfield for the Dodgers this season.
If he signs the deal Spotrac projects, he will have the fifth-largest deal among left fielders in Major League Baseball. It would rank 21st among all outfielders in the big leagues and it could be very affordable.
Hernández, 31, showcased he can be a key contributor to the Dodgers at the plate and with the glove. This offseason will be the second time Hernández will hit free agency since beginning his big league career with the Houston Astros.
