The Los Angeles Dodgers spent over $1 billion last offseason to bring in star players Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Tyler Glasnow. The spending may not be finished this offseason as they look for upgrades on the infield.
When predicting every team's 2025 Opening Day lineup, Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter predicted that current Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames would be starting for the Dodgers. Adames will be a free agent this winter, likely looking to cash in on a big payday.
"The Dodgers trading for Willy Adames was a popular hypothetical last offseason, and now they can simply push to sign him in free agency," wrote Reuter. "That would allow Mookie Betts to stay in right field, and it would give the team another 30-homer threat in the middle of the lineup."
Adames is having a great season in 2024. He leads the Brewers with 29 home runs and 100 runs batted in. His 100 RBIs also lead the national league. He has started in and played every game this season as well.
The Dodgers have already moved Betts back to right field since he returned from his injury. Adding Adames would stop the rotation they have had at shortstop as a result of Betts' return to the outfield.
Adames is projected to sign a seven-year, $175 million contract this winter according to Spotrac. Such a deal would put him right behind Dansby Swanson of the Chicago Cubs as the seventh-largest shortstop contract in MLB.
