Dodgers vs. Pirates: Betting lines, prediction for series opener image

The Dodgers offense has struggled over the last couple weeks, but they've stayed afloat thanks to some sensational efforts from their pitching staff. Sportsbooks are expecting more of the same type of game from Los Angeles on Tuesday when they open their series against the Pirates at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.

Tyler Glasnow will take the mound for the Dodgers against Pittsburgh rookie Jared Jones. Glasnow is one of the most electric pitchers in baseball, boasting 42 strikeouts against just nine walks with a 3.48 ERA in his last five starts. He figures to have a good outing against one of baseball's worst offenses.

Jones has had an up-and-down year, but despite giving up five earned runs in 4.1 innings his last time out his ERA for the season still sits at 3.55.

BetMGM Sportsbook likes both pitchers to deal against a couple of offenses that haven't been great of late. Here's what the betting lines and total look like for Tuesday's game:

Run line

Dodgers -1.5: -110
Pirates +1.5: -110

Moneyline

Dodgers: -190
Pirates: +155

Total

Over 8.0 runs: +100
Under 8.0 runs: -120

Until the Dodgers offense gets back on track it's hard to lean too heavily into them running up the score, particularly against a good rookie hurler they've not faced yet.

We'll lean on the under, but we also like Glasnow to carry LA to a fairly comfortable win so we'll take the Dodgers -1.5 on the run line as well.

Prediction

Dodgers 5, Pirates 2
