The Los Angeles Dodgers have been the one of the best teams in the National League all season long and they currently have the second-best senior circuit.
Despite all the injuries, the Dodgers have held strong and remain the team to beat in the NL West. With the postseason coming up, they look to be a dangerous team.
However, they could become even stronger in the postseason. The Dodgers have not ruled out having Shohei Ohtani pitch in some capacity in October. He has missed most of the season after undergoing his second Tommy John surgery last fall.
"Shohei's on board with continuing his rehab process and I wouldn't put it past him to have an eye on that," manager Dave Roberts said of his chances of pitching in October. "We'll just see how it plays out."
It may be a little late for Ohtani to return as a starter this October, but he could possibly come out of the bullpen. Roberts seems encouraged by his superstar's rehab process, and if Ohtani does return, the Dodgers will receive a major boost for the postseason.
This season will be the first time Ohtani will have experienced the postseason. If he can do so as a hitter and a pitcher, October will certainly be special for him.
The Dodgers could use all the help they can get, as their pitching staff has been decimated by injuries this year. Yoshinobu Yamamoto has been out for a while, and Tyler Glasnow has made multiple trips to the injured list, so it wouldn't hurt for the Dodgers to have Ohtani available to pitch in some capacity.
Ultimately, everything depends on how his rehab goes. Returning to pitching this season while also putting together an MVP-caliber year at the plate would be a nice comeback story for Ohtani as his legend continues to grow.
We'll see if the Dodgers have him available to pitch in October this year.
