There are several directions the Dodgers can go at the MLB trade deadline, but given their injury situation it would appear that a major swing in the pitching rotation is their best course of action as the deadline approaches.
White Sox lefty Garrett Crochet would certainly be that big swing.
While Crochet was a relative unknown going into the year thanks in part to an injury and 72-career appearances all out of the bullpen, he has now become one of the best starting pitchers in baseball. Look no further than the MLB pitcher power rankings for the type of player Los Angeles would be targeting at the July 30 deadline. Crochet ranks No. 3 behind Tigers lefty Tarik Skubal and Orioles right-hander Corbin Burnes.
Tarik Skubal takes over the No. 1 spot in this week's Pitcher Power Rankings.

Adding Crochet would not just give the Dodgers an additional starter. It would dramatically upgrade the top of their rotation with Crochet landing firmly as the team's No. 2 starter behind Tyler Glasnow.
There are some question marks about Crochet's ability to pitch deep into a season since his 101.1 innings this year are more than he'd pitched in his entire career combined entering 2024. However, he has simply been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season and trading for him would give the Dodgers MLB's best rotation going into the playoffs.
