A Memorial Day rainout is a good metaphor for the Dodgers' recent stretch. Instead of playing under the sun for the unofficial start of Summer, Los Angeles is stuck in New York with no game to play because of inclement weather in the area. While a dreary day off doesn't appear to come with many silver linings, it may be just what the Dodgers need given how they've played lately.
LA on Sunday lost its fifth consecutive game. Their offense is a disaster and the continued inability to either hit the ball over the fence or get a hit with runners in scoring position seems to be compounding.
The Dodgers are riding a 6-for-47 stretch with runners in scoring position during their five-game losing streak in which they've scored 11 total runs, including one each in their last two losses to the Reds.
What can happen in rough spots like this is hitters all begin pressing to try and be the guy who breaks the slump. In reality, settling in and putting together good at-bats is what will eventually cure a team's prolonged offensive valley. Especially when that team's order features perennial MVP candidates Mookie Betts, Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman.
An unscheduled day off could be just what the Dodgers need. A day to galavant about New York doing whatever it is baseball players do when they get a free day in one of the country's biggest cities is a great opportunity to forget about baseball for a bit before jumping back into action for two games Tuesday.
