The Los Angeles Dodgers lost Game 2 of the National League Division Series and fell into a 1-1 tie with the San Diego Padres on Sunday night.
They remain just two wins shy of the NLCS, but now head to San Diego with their home field advantage negated.
This offseason, they may be in the market for a major upgrade at third base.
With the St. Louis Cardinals entering a rebuild and likely to trade players such as Nolan Arenado, the Dodgers could be a match. Josh Jacobs of FanSided noted that the Dodgers could try to acquire Arenado this winter.
"If Arenado green-lights a trade, I'd be shocked if it is to anywhere other than Los Angeles, unless the Dodgers do not want him," Jacobs wrote. "I feel like Arenado ending up with the Dodgers makes too much sense at this point."
Given that Arenado struggled this season, the Dodgers would likely not have to give up a significant package to acquire him. Before St. Louis acquired him from the Colorado Rockies, the Dodgers had interest in him.
Last summer, the Dodgers were reportedly in talks with the Cardinals about an Arenado deal until it fell through.
But the Dodgers could certainly use Arenado next season, though they might have to do something with Max Muncy, as Arenado remains one of the top defensive third basemen in the game despite his offensive struggles.
It will certainly be interesting to see if the Dodgers can pull a deal off this winter and land a star they have had their eyes on for years.
