Dodgers injury news: Yoshinobu Yamamoto 1 of 2 placed on IL image

The Dodgers on Sunday before their series finale against the Royals placed starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto and relief pitcher Michael Grove on the 15-day IL. Los Angeles called up pitchers J.P. Feyereisen and Michael Petersen from Triple-A Oklahoma City in a corresponding move.

Yamamoto had his start against the Rangers pushed back a couple days so he could take the mound Saturday against Kansas City. He originally felt the right triceps tightness after he pitched against the Yankees on June 7. In Saturday's game he threw just 28 pitches in 2.0 innings before exiting. It doesn't sound like the club believes the injury is serious, but substantial time off is probably wise given that the injury resurfaced after getting a couple extra days off between starts.

Grove, a reliever who has made a couple of spot starts for LA this year is also on the IL with a right intercostal strain. He threw 30 pitches in 2.0 innings before exiting Saturday night's game as well.

Feyereisen and Petersen will provide bullpen depth for LA while Grove and Yamamoto are out. The former has pitched in nine games for the Dodgers this season, posting a 6.00 ERA in 9.0 innings.

Petersen, 30, has been excellent in Triple-A this season and has never pitched in the Majors. With Oklahoma City this year he put up a 1.61 ERA in 23 appearances. He struck out 31 and walked only six in 22.1 innings.
