Less than a year ago, Boston Red Sox prospect Zach Penrod was pitching in an independent league for the Missoula Paddleheads.

Now, after just months, the Red Sox are promoting Penrod from Double-A Portland to Triple-A Worcester, according to Beyond the Monster's Josh Ball.

Penrod, 26, was originally signed by the Texas Rangers as an undrafted free agent in 2018. However, he was released after having Tommy John surgery in 2019.

This season with Portland, he's made seven starts, posting a 2.80 ERA and a 13.5 K/9 in 35 1/3 innings of work.

Obviously, as an older prospect, Penrod's ceiling isn't as high as others in the farm system, but if he continues pitching like this, it wouldn't be surprising to see him in the majors in the next year.
