Going into the season, it was clear that the Boston Red Sox weren't going to compete for the World Series, so it made sense that they'd be looking to trade off some pieces during the season.

Now, it appears that we have the first potential trade piece that Boston will be looking to move on from.

According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, the Red Sox plan to trade closer Kenley Jansen by the All-Star break. He notes that Boston has no interest in keeping him beyond the 2024 season.

Jansen, 36, has been solid for Boston this year, posting a 3.24 ERA in his 17 appearances, but he also has the highest WHIP (1.32) of his career.

Boston knows they need to continue adding pieces that will help them in the future, and Jansen just wants to focus on doing his job and winning, so when a deal comes it shouldn't surprise anyone.
