The Boston Red Sox are preparing for their Wednesday night battle with the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium, but before first pitch, Alex Cora's squad made four roster moves.

According to MassLive's Sean McAdam, Boston has placed designated hitter/outfielder Tyler O'Neill on the injured list with an infection in his lower left calf. To fill his spot, they've recalled infielder Enmanuel Valdez from Triple-A Worcester.

O'Neill has been inactive in recent days, as he's also battled a stomach virus. In 80 games this season, he's hit .268 with a .900 OPS, 22 home runs, 45 RBIs and three stolen bases. Valdez was optioned down to Worcester nearly a month ago. In 56 games with Boston this year, he's hit .226 with a .684 OPS, six home runs, 26 RBIs and a stolen base.

The Red Sox also activated right-handed reliever Chris Martin from the injured list and optioned left-handed reliever Cam Booser to Triple-A.

Martin had been dealing with elbow inflammation and had also dealt with anxiety issues earlier in the year. In 26 appearances this year, he's posted a 3.42 ERA (3.40 FIP) with a 1.025 WHIP while striking out 29 batters. Booser has appeared in 39 games as a rookie this year, recording a 2.77 ERA (2.99 FIP) with a 1.128 WHIP while striking out 38 batters.
