Red Sox offense and defense sputter, fall to Mariners 10-6 image

The Boston Red Sox fell to the Seattle Mariners 10-6 after the Sox’s offense and defense were unable to replicate how they played yesterday.

James Paxton made his Red Sox debut this season, after being acquired from the Dodgers who DFA’d him. He gave up six runs, but to his credit only three runs were earned. Yohan Ramirez, another pitcher the Sox picked up off the Dodgers DFA’s, gave up another four runs. After that, the relievers were able to stop the Mariners from leaking more runs.

The Sox offense was no better than their defense, with over half of their offense coming from Rafael Devers, who hit a three-run homer in the third inning and a RBI single in the seventh. The other two runs also came in the seventh, off RBI singles from Tyler O’Neill and Dominic Smith.

The Sox will play the Mariners for the rubber match that decides the series tomorrow at 4:10pm EST.
