The Boston Red Sox have hovered around the .500 mark throughout this 2024 season, and 66 games in, they're dead even at 33-33.
With the MLB trade deadline less than 50 days away, the Red Sox, like the other 29 teams in the league, will have to decide which direction they'll be going by then. Will they really try to add to this roster, or will they sell parts off for those who are closer to a World Series run?
If they decide that they're sellers, one player that Boston could end up moving on from is right-handed pitcher Nick Pivetta.
Pivetta, 31, is in the final year of his deal with the Red Sox after Boston traded for him from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for Heath Hembree and Brandon Workman.
In his five seasons with Boston, he's posted a 4.26 ERA and 1.252 WHIP while pitching in the rotation and out of the bullpen.
This year, he's made eight starts and recorded a 3.40 ERA and a 0.945 WHIP, which would both be career lows for the former fourth-round pick if the season ended today.
While there are plenty of better options on the market, Pivetta is a dependable arm who will make his starts, and that's appealing to other teams.
Considering he'd be a rental, Boston probably wouldn't get a haul for Pivetta's services, but they can continue to add pieces for the future as they have been.
