After a poor showing on the road against the Atlanta Braves and Minnesota Twins, the Boston Red Sox are welcoming the Washington Nationals to Fenway Park on Friday for the first of three games.

In Game 1, the Red Sox are sending Tanner Houck to the mound while the Nationals will start Patrick Corbin.

Here's what Alex Cora's lineup will look like on Friday:

  1. Jarren Duran LF
  2. Rob Refsnyder DH
  3. Tyler O’Neill RF
  4. Rafael Devers 3B
  5. Connor Wong C
  6. Vaughn Grissom 2B
  7. Garrett Cooper 1B
  8. Romy Gonzalez SS
  9. Ceddanne Rafaela CF

The Nationals' lineup has some threatening batters:

  1. Jacob Young CF
  2. CJ Abrams SS
  3. Luis Garcia Jr. 2B
  4. Joey Meneses 1B
  5. Jesse Winker DH
  6. Keibert Ruiz C
  7. Eddie Rosario LF
  8. Trey Lipscomb 3B
  9. Victor Robles RF

Houck has looked great this season, posting a 1.99 ERA (10th in baseball) and a 0.97 WHIP (12th) through his first seven starts in 2024. He's allowed multiple runs in just three of those starts. The only National to ever record a hit off of Houck is Jesse Winker (1-for-1).

Corbin has struggled over the last few seasons, including through his first seven starts this year, as he's posted a 6.45 ERA and a 1.81 WHIP. He's allowed hits to two active Red Sox - Cooper (6-for-27 with one home run and four RBIs) and Refsnyder (1-for-3).
