The Boston Red Sox already have three starting pitchers and three infielders on the injured list, but another player is about to join them.

On WEEI, Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that Masataka Yoshida is going to the injured list after suffering a hand injury in Boston's 5-4 win over the Chicago Cubs on Sunday.

Yoshida had finally been brought back into the starting lineup for the final two games of that series after appearing only as a pinch hitter in two of the team's previous five contests. In those two starts, he swung the bat well, going 5-for-7 with an RBI.

Boston will likey use the designated hitter spot to give players days off from the field or allow them to use more than three allotted outfielders. Rob Refsnyder, Tyler O'Neill, Jarren Duran and Wilyer Abreu have been among the Red Sox best bats this season, so having them in the lineup should be beneficial for the offense.
