The Boston Red Sox have struggled with injuries so far this season, and designated hitter Masataka Yoshida is one of the most recent to land on the injured list.
Yoshida was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left thumb strain on May 1 after leaving the game on April 28.
On Friday, manager Alex Cora provided an update on the designated hitter, who won't need surgery.
“Now we’ve just gotta wait,” Cora said (via. MassLive). “Obviously treatment and then see how he feels in a few weeks. We go from there. No swinging. But at least we know that at one point he’s going to be available and he’s going to be able to help us.”
In his 24 games played this season, Yoshida is hitting .275 with two home runs, 11 RBIs and a .736 OPS.
For now, Boston will continue using the designated hitter spot for their extra outfielders and first basemen or as a way to get someone a bit of rest.
