With the regular season coming to a close for minor league baseball programs around the country, awards are being handed out, and, on Tuesday, Boston Red Sox prospect Kristian Campbell was named 2024 Eastern League MVP.
The 22-year-old actually started the season in High-A Greenville but was promoted to Double-A Portland after just 40 games.
Campbell appeared in 56 games for Portland in the Eastern League, hitting .362 with a 1.045 OPS, eight home runs, 35 RBIs and 17 stolen bases.
This performance led to a promotion to Triple-A Worcester, where he was also impressive. In 19 games, he hit .286 with an .898 OPS, four home runs, 17 RBIs and four stolen bases.
Campbell and fellow Red Sox prospects Roman Anthony, Marcelo Mayer and Kyle Teel were named 2024 Eastern League All-Stars.
Boston is hoping this is just the start for Campbell, as he may have an opportunity to compete for the second base job in spring training.
