The Boston Red Sox downed the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday to earn their second win in as many days and a series victory over the best team in the National League.

Boston's offense exploded for nine runs, while their pitching staff did well to keep Philadelphia from reaching home plate despite a fair number of hits.

While everyone was thrilled with the result, including Red Sox manager Alex Cora, he sees his team as exactly what they are.

“We played well, man. We have a good team,” Cora said (via. MassLive). “We’re gonna win some games and we’re gonna lose some games. I know everybody thought the must-win was Sunday in Chicago because they have the worst record in baseball but we don’t see it that way.

“We show up every day and we work hard. Sometimes it’s going to be good, sometimes great, and sometimes we’re gonna struggle, because that’s who we are. We have accepted that as a team and we’re going to show up every day and try to kick your ass. That’s the bottom line. Sometimes we will and sometimes they’ll kick our ass.”

Boston has struggled against good teams this year, with this being their first series win against a team with a winning record, but despite all of their injuries, they have remained around .500 all season. That's an accomplishment in itself.
