The Atlanta Braves were expected to be one of Major League Baseball's best teams in 2024. While they still occupy a playoff spot in the National League, they have also lost four games in a row.
At 60-53, Atlanta is barely hanging onto the third Wild Card spot. However, Jon Heyman of the New York Post isn't ready to count them out just yet and predicted that they will be in the postseason as a Wild Card team.
"I include the Braves because right now they're underperforming," Heyman said. "You've got injuries with (Reynaldo) Lopez, (Max) Fried just getting back, (Spencer) Strider out for the year, (Ronald) Acuna out for the year. So many injuries."
Atlanta has won the NL East in each of the last six seasons. That likely will change this year with the team trailing the Philadelphia Phillies by 7 1/2 games late in the year.
But even with all the injuries, they remain in the playoff hunt and would be in the picture if the season ended today. Heyman clearly isn't ready to count them out just yet.
Atlanta won their first World Series since 1995 back in 2021. In each of the past two seasons, they have won at least 100 games and lost the NLDS to the Phillies.
They lead the New York Mets by just a half-game in the Wild Card race, but still remain a threat in the National League.
