The Atlanta Braves will look different when August rolls around.
The 2024 Major League Baseball trade deadline will pass on July 30th and it's expected that the Braves will be active. The National League is weak this season and Atlanta still has a chance to make a deep run despite losing Spencer Strider and Ronald Acuña Jr.
Atlanta still is one of the top teams in the National League and a strong deadline could help take it to another level.
CBS Sports' R.J. Anderson put together a list of the top trade candidates with possible suitors and linked the Braves to Detroit Tigers ace Jack Flaherty.
"Give Flaherty credit: his stock is higher now than it was last deadline when the Cardinals shipped him to the (Baltimore Orioles)," Anderson said. "He's throwing a little harder; he's generating more whiffs and more chases; and he has a dazzling stat line despite not really altering his arsenal in a meaningful way.
"He's a free agent at year's end, and the Tigers have no reason to hold onto him past the deadline unless they want to use the exclusive negotiating window to work out a new deal. Shy of that, we'll note that Flaherty has been dealing with some back issues that haven't yet landed him on the IL; in turn, we have to assume they'll be a non-factor at the deadline. Potential suitors: Braves, (Cleveland Guardians), (Houston Astros)."
Flaherty has been one of the most talked about starters who could be moved this summer and he could be a great option for Atlanta. His 3.24 ERA would be a great addition to the Braves' rotation and Atlanta should consider a move.
