Mexico’s Confederation’s Cup took a turn for the worse Tuesday, as Carlos Salcedo was taken off the field on a stretcher against New Zealand.
The defender appeared to be struck by the arm of New Zealand striker Chris Wood in the 29th minute of action and went down in a heap. Despite Salcedo remaining down in his own area, play continued and resulted in a chance for Wood in alone to put the All Whites in front, but El Tri keeper Alfredo Talavera kept the game scoreless.

Salcedo was then taken off the field on a stretcher with his arm in a sling. Mexico later confirmed the 23-year-old had dislocated his shoulder and was being taken to the hospital for further evaluation.
Salcedo recently agreed to terms on a season-long loan from Chivas in Liga MX to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga, where he will play alongside Mexico teammate Marco Fabian.
The injury sparked a war of words on the touchlines between Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio and New Zealand boss Anthony Hudson, with Osorio shouting what appeared to be profanities at his counterpart.
Things went from bad to worse for Mexico not long after as Wood capitalized on a poor clearance in the 42nd minute of action to put New Zealand up with a surprise 1-0 advantage just before the half. However Raul Jimenez managed to score for El Tri early in the second half to get the game back on level terms and Oribe Peralta went on to score in the 72nd minute to give Mexico the 2-1 win.
